Incredible, Antique Chinese Silk Skirt.

The skirt was bought by English Missionaries in the 1920’s and the skirt was old then. It has silver threads like Urishi in Japanese garments.

Waist band – 164 cm
Waist to hem – 87cm

This piece is all silk and rather fragile. You’ll notice there is significant pulling and wear in some areas.

It appears to have the metallic sheen of hammered Indigo, with a deep blue base. It could be the bronze coloured silk has been used over blue to create this effect – I am not sure!

While everyday indigo cloth was common, the court utilized deep blue, blue-black, and indigo-dyed silks for the highest-ranking garments. The colour blue was symbolically rich, often worn in ceremonies related to the Temple of Heaven.
